Cavern Diving at Thailand’s Khao Sok

khaosok1Thailand’s southern islands and coastline are dotted with cavern and cave systems tech divers are anxious to dive. Aquanauts has the advantage of being centrally located so we can dive the southern caves as well as those near Kanchanaburi. One we haven’t done yet is Khao Sok on the southern side of the Gulf of Thailand. The Internet today, however, brings us a trip report and photos from a group of divers who completed a cavern diver course there.

There were the usual academic and skills-training sessions, done following NSS-CDS standards, and the last day was strictly for fun diving.

Matt would drop below the canopy for some depth exploration (had all that tech gear and no one to use it) and was supported above the canopy. Surprisingly he only found 50m but it was crystal clear, next time we’ll explore away from the rock face and try to hit 100m which we all imagine will be f*cking dark and f*cking cold, quoting Matt himself.

The rest of the course report and a bundle of photos can be found here. As for Aquanauts, we’re forming our next Cavern Diver course now, so contact us if you’re interested.
